Les Deux Aples has a very long winter season with good snow from the end of October to the beginning of May. This is largely due to the glacier which is the biggest skiable glacier in Europe.
The area was one of the first places to promote snowboarding and is home to the, now classic, Mondial du Snowboard event held in October and the Mondial Du Ski, usually a week later. These events give you a chance to test the latest equipment for free and to watch demonstrations by all of the major pro teams.
The snowpark at 2 Alpes has been getting better and better over the last 10 years and now has a well-deserved, world-wide reputation. This is due to the ever-increasing investment and the dedicated and experienced shapers who work on it daily. It is home to three ‘Park Bullies’, one ‘Pipe Magician’ and one ‘ Turbine’.
There are a few different areas to the park:
• Axe pipe :
This zone allows beginners to take on rather "technical" ramps like hips, gaps, or quarters over more than 800 m. A good place to practice before moving on to the pipe or Slopestyle areas.
• Slopestyle :
Slopestyle is one of the most popular discipline and allows experienced to expert riders. Les 2 Alpes Slopestyle is made of a step up gap, a 20m Big Air, 2 tables with 3 kickers from 8m to 15m, several handrails like "kink", "straight" or "C" Rails and a huge hip!
• Half-pipe :
The pipe meets federation standards and is 120 m long with a 4.5m radius. Regular maintenance by a team of experienced drivers ensures perfect transition.
• L'envers :
L’envers includes handrails, rainbow, curb, kicks, two big air tamps with BBQ, music, DJ’s and deckchairs.
As well as the snowpark, the area has 5 ‘Slide Zones’ which include:
Le couloir – a gully 150M long with a gradient of 35 degrees.
Les canyons – 2 fun runs with raised corners.
Les cornices – Jumps from 1m to 5m high.
Les cascades – A chance to compete with your mates at the same time.
Le boardercross- Two runs with a difference in altitude of 185m for a length of 1000m and an all-new beginners run.
At the bottom of the slopes, budding freestylers can try their luck on the ‘Jump Training System’. A safe way to learn jumps with a soft inflatable crash mat.
The off-piste possibilities are huge and challenging with a link up by crawler carrier to the legendary ‘la Grave’ resort (a 2150m drop with the most incredible off-piste terrain and stunning scenery).
Les Deux Alpes has a fast and effective lift system including 1 funicular, 4 gondolas, 23 chair lifts, 19 tows and 2 cable cars. With the top lift reaching 3568m and over 200km of pistes to explore, it caters for beginners just as well as for the many pro riders.
A week’s ski pass will cost 145 Euros and for this you get access to the whole 2 Alpes ski area, including the snowpark, slide zones, the jump training system and the resort of la Grave. You also get access to the ‘ Grande Galaxie’ system of neighbouring resorts including two days in L’Alpe d’Huez, one day in Serre Chevalier, one day in Puy St Vincent and one day in la Voie Lactée.
Helicopter flights to Alpe d’Huez cost £40pp for a round trip with an off-piste pick up. Titan Snow can organise daily trips to nearby resorts as required. Also included in your weekly ski pass is free admission to the outdoor heated swimming pool, skating rink and discounts in the sauna and jacuzzi.
Other activities – night skiing, helicopter flights, paragliding, quad biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, Ice climbing, Turkish baths, mountain awareness workshops(free), dog sledding, bowling and cinema.
Les 2 Alpes has a wide range of restaurants which cater for all types of cuisine and most budgets, from grabbing a pizza or burger to eating the finest French cuisine - you can’t go wrong. In addition, there are plenty of bars and clubs to suit all tastes.
